What to see at the museum

What to see at the museum

Sinebrychoff Art Museum’s collection exhibition includes Swedish art from before 1809, including portraits of Queen Christina of Sweden. As one of the museums in Helsinki, it is housed in a building that belonged to the Sinebrychoff family, giving the visit a link to the people behind the collection.

The building was completed in 1842 and served as both the Sinebrychoff family home and a brewery office. Paul and Fanny Sinebrychoff’s art and object collection was given to the Finnish state in 1921.

On the second floor, the permanent Paul and Fanny Sinebrychoff home museum preserves another part of the story. Admission to that home museum is free.

The museum’s permanent displays offer two distinct ways to explore the Sinebrychoff legacy: the collection exhibition and the second-floor home museum. Admission to the permanent collection exhibition is free, as is entry to the home museum.

Temporary exhibition details can change, so plan around the permanent displays if you want a visit that doesn’t depend on a particular show.

Pairing the visit with Sinebrychoff Park

Pairing the visit with Sinebrychoff Park

Sinebrychoff Park makes a natural outdoor addition to a museum visit. The park began as the private garden of businessman Nikolai Sinebrychoff (1786–1848); its present layout mainly took shape in the late 1960s and early 1980s. It has a play park, a public toilet and a café.

You can visit the museum first, then take a stroll in the park. Home Hotel Jugend is about a four-minute walk from the museum, making it easy to add a museum visit to your stay at Home Hotel Jugend.
